Curved decor with its soft edges and nature inspired organic form can be a tool to create a truly relaxing feel. After being stuck in our box-like homes for what feels like forever, no wonder the curve trend has accelerated. Curves are often seen as visually more pleasing and are generally tougher to engineer, suggesting more love has gone into an item, that it has a human touch or finish to it.A notion that is closely linked to consumers looking for independent makers or more sustainable craftsmanship and production.
How to introduce curves to your space
It’s a trend that lends itself to any and everyones personal taste from eclectic and playful to minimal or glamorous. And it doesn’t have to be a high price tag item to create the softened feel. Think paint effect arches, scollop patterns, vases, round rugs. They compliment square/straight items and add interest in the mix of shapes to your space as well as fluidity as you read the room.
See below for two mood-boards I have created to illustrate a bold, colourful style and a more sleek minimal look that both incorporate the modern use of curves.
Rarely does a trend transcend architectural finishes , through to furniture, art and decorative items but curves are back with a bang and are here to soften the edges on uncertain times.
